Yesterday our church held what we call "Journey days." It is a summer festival. In years past it has been mostly on Saturday and Sunday - with a few things happening Friday night. But they have now changed it. I think it was changed last year but I had forgotten. So I was surprised to find out the silent Auction was only on Sat. Well it was on Fri night as well but I didn't go Fri night, because I thought there would be stuff on Sun.
It was from 3 to 11 on Sat and I was gong to go around 4 or so then meet my parents for dinner at 6, however I was messing around in the garden for later then I thought. See though it was hot, the one area I was working in was shaded. I don't have very good stamina though - even when it's not hot, so I was going in and out and being careful. By the time I cleaned myself up it was almost 5, so I decided to just meet my parents and go over afterword.
My mom and I got there at 7. When I was driving over and stopped at a light - I put my kindle which I had with me into my fanny pack and zipped it shut - and the zipper went SPRONG and zinged off into my car somewhere - leaving the pack permanently zipped. Mom helped me unzip it when we met up but of course I now couldn't close it
I mainly looked at the auction items and played bingo. Mom just went around and looked at the auction items really quick, did a $10 mystery wine pull (and got our fav wine, white Zinfandel.) and then went home.
I spent 10 bucks on a raffle drawing that was ending in about 10 min (at 7:30) - I put about 5 tickets into the box for the housecleaning, 1 into another box and 4 into a box for flowers. I won the housecleaning. :D
Though there was a problem claiming it in the end... there was supposed to be a certificate that they couldn't find. However, the ladies name and phone number was on an auction item form tapped to a basket of cleaning supplies that came with the housecleaning so that ended ok. :) I really need it.
I also bid on several silent auction items and one a flower print, a basket of mtn man stuff (mostly nuts and trail mix kind of things) and the services of someone with a dump truck that could haul away items - or help me buy some rock I need. I discovered the auction item about 5 min before closing and had to ask to make sure that it could be used to haul stuff TO my house instead of away. They found the guy's wife who was also volunteering at the auction and I described what I wanted, and she said that was why they donated it - to help someone who couldn't physically do it themselves. I want to get a boulder too and wanted to make sure that he could move it. But I missed out on the wax melter thing (where you dip your hands or feet in hot wax) but my mom said she'd give me hers - she only used it briefly. My hands tend to get dry and it helps. I used to do it in the salons all the time, but now they have these "soyaphin" gloves that is like self contained and chemical/water activated and they get too hot for me.
Today we had the big unity mass. Just one mass for the entire weekend. The IDEA is that the whole church is supposed to gather together but of course there are people who will go to other churches instead. which irks our Pastor. In fact for weeks before the festival he pretty much lays out guilt trips. He has a point, but it can be annoying. He talks about how we are a community and everyone should participate one way or another or they arn't part of the "family" etc. I can understand somewhat - as there are people that are pew warmers - they do the minimum possible, but it's still annoying for him to harp on it all the time.
Of course this year it was really hot - we are going to have 5 days of 100 degree heat and Sun was the third day. They had tents all over and the elderly could go inside. (There are way too many people to hold it inside the church - fire codes) Mom and I found a good spot that was shaded so it wasn't too bad.
Afterward, we went for breakfast. Later in the day I left to go to my friends' for our twice a month anime meeting. We meet generally every other week to watch anime and play games -- normally it is on the 1st and 3rd sunday of the month but we altered it this month due mainly to Father's day. I needed gas so I stopped, and discovered I didn't have my cell phone.
I kinda worried about it all day. As my fanny pack zipper had broken the day before I had loaded my stuff up into an older fanny pack I found and didn't realize the phone area wasn't staying shut. (Velcro not working so I was afraid I lost it at the Mass or breakfast. I called the restaurant and it wasn't there. I was reveled when I found it on the love-seat when I got home.
Now my eyes hurt, my kitties have had their snack and are sleepy and I think I'll hit the hey.
This is a general blog right now. I may break it out if I can get into blogging. :)

Monday Part 2
I found my check.
I am SUCH a goof. I kept thinking.. ok I didn't want to put it with the other mail so what did I DO with it. I was even looking in all my bags because-- well I enter through the garage which means sometimes I'll park then go back and get my mail and toss it in my bag and then go inside. But I couldn't find it!
Out of desperation I went downstairs in the basement - with the off thought that maybe I put it in the bag with the fish I bought for the snakes last week. But I had both the snake food bags accounted for and I couldn't recall what type of bag I left the store with. I didn't see a plastic bag (which is what they would normally give me) in the room. But then it hit me. Someone had left a red target bag there - she didn't want it anymore. (She was a friend of one of the workers) he asked if I'd like it... and I said sure! So THAT's what I took the fish home in and THAT's what I put my mail for the day in and forgot to take out because one of the cats had punctured the bag and I had to run it downstairs really fast and completely forgot to bring it and the mail back upstairs.
And there was the check.
It's in my fanny pack now.
Monday
Monday morning.
I’m a bit upset with myself right now. Last week sometime I received my rent check for my condo. (I own both a house and a condo – I couldn’t sell the condo when I moved so I rented it). I remember standing there with the envelope going “well at least I got this check” (I was looking for the 2nd insurance check for the roof – which I have not received yet). I KNOW I resisted plunking it down on a misc pile of other mail. I THOUGHT I put it in the important pile by the door – the one that included my trash bill. I Merrily worked outside all weekend without a thought. Then this morning I decide to grab it so I could put it in the bank. Or at least locate it. I also needed to locate my AAA bill. Well I found all the AAA info – no bill. I found the trash bill but nothing else. Frantic I looked in every mail pile I have (ok ok so I’m way behind in filing).
I KNOW I didn’t get it at the end of the week. I remember checking the mail and seeing a magazine only one day – so I left it there. The next day (Sat) I had the mag and another piece of mail that is just a statement. So I know I didn’t get the check Fri or Sat. My manager tends to send them out around the 10th so I’m thinking I received it Tue or Wed. But what the BEEP did I do with it? It’s going to drive me NUTS now. I wonder if it fell on the floor and got knocked under something by the cats.
I’m also missing my watch – I know I had it when I drove up to Longmont on Friday to buy dad’s gift certificate – so I most likely took it of Friday night. But when I went to put it on Saturday, I couldn’t find it.
I was even late to work this morning looking for stuff. All I want to do right now is go home and sort through all the mail, look under the couch and loveseat and any other place I can think of.
Sure I called AAA and found out how much I owe and set up the bill-pay payment. But I really don’t want to have to call my manager and admit I lost his check. Oh he’s a nice guy and I’ve been cashing checks over a year without a problem so you’d think at some point a check would get lost, either in the mail or just by me. However it’s still embarrassing. Not to mention that to be on the safe side he would have to put a stop payment on it – which if the bank charges him anything I’d insist come out of the check, which means I’d get less. Not the end of the world but STILL. I’d hate to do that and then find it crammed somewhere “safe” a month from now. I REALLY REALLY want to find it.
The other thing that is bugging me right now --- it could hit over 100 today. Come on. It’s JUNE. Not July, Not August, JUNE!. In February we missed by a few inches being the wettest February ever. But then after that - just phsssssst. Nothing. Hardly anything. March was the DRIEST March on record. I can’t recall April. In May I know there were several days of rain when I was on vacation but that was pretty much it. Now we are half way through June and we’ve just had a few Spitting storms. Maybe one decent one. (like ¼ of an inch or so.) There were a few really good ones that hit south and east – and of course had tornados and hail. Granted I know that we risk that… but it’s JUNE – May and June is T-storm season. We are supposed to have rain almost EVERY DAY in the afternoon. Now granted there is a slight chance… but only slight.
Here is the 5 day forecast for my area in Colorado according to the weather channel:
Today: High 97 (a little less then what they are saying on the radio) Chance of rain: 0%
Tuesday: High 95 Chance of rain: 0%
Wednesday: High: 85 chance of rain: 0%
Thursday: High: 91 Chance of rain: 0%
Friday: High 96. Chance of rain: 10%.
If I check the 10 day weather I get anywhere from 10-20% chance of rain and highs in the high 80s, low 90s. That’s JULY weather.
Lately the last few years we seem to be getting monsoon weather in August instead. So when it’s supposed to be rainy it’s hot and dry. When it’s supposed to be hot and dry it’s rainy. It’s frustrating! I can’t get my greens to grow. Though I guess I should have planted them months ago. Maybe I’ll end up with salad stuff in September.
Posting this at lunch.
