High park wildfire update. Still (thank God) only 1 person dead. 1 person too many of course but I'm glad there hasn't been any other deaths. It's now 55k acres but it's 45% contained. It has destroyed 181 homes. This is the 9th day of the fire. All of this is according to 9news.
As far as my gardening goes - I finally today was able to plant my glads/sunflowers/and morning glory flowers. I put them all along the back and side fences. We shall see how many come up.
I attempted to dig up the area between my porch and the house. When I bought the house - that area was filled with Ivy. That ivy was getting into the siding and the AC and shouldn't have been that close to the house - so I had my landscaper remove it. I am going to put 1'x1' stepping stones there and some decorative rock where I can't fit the stones. However, I need to lower the soil line so I can put some sand to even everything out and for the stones to fit properly. The ground was REALLY hard - even after I wet it. I had to lay the house on some places and form puddles and use a combo of my hose and shovel to break the ground up. It also is full of the dead ivy bush roots - which are a pain to deal with.
I also need to mention for my records that I planted some more indoor seeds. This time in a more sturdy greenhouse (still plastic) that I hope the cats can't mess with. They are in the "great room" which gets pretty sunny during the day if I have the blinds open. So I hope the combo of cooler temps and plenty of sun will help in starting some lettuce and spinach. - Though I did notice the line I planted the lettuce in outside has sprouts again. I'm just hoping this time it gets beyond the sprout stage!
I went down to Longmont (or would that be up? I went north...) and bought a gift certificate at a golf course for dad for father's day. Speaking of, I have about an hour to clean up and get ready.
bye
