The big High peak fire (North west of Ft Collins in Colorado) is now over 50k acres. It has destroyed more then 118 structures. The good news (kinda) is it's 15-20% contained. And there may be storms tonight.
The Governor just signed an order to ban open fires and home fireworks. This reminded me that I have to make sure to hose down everything the week of the 4th. Meh.
Some moron on the comments was spouting off about how the fires currently weren't caused by "the devices listed" so he shouldn't have his freedom taken away from him. REALLY?
This is what I posted in reply:
Well I want the freedom of keeping my house and bushes intact! Every year there is at least one fire involving a house or apt complex. One year I yelled at some kids setting off fireworks in the parking lot of my condo (I have since moved into a house) - then I called the police. A few min later I heard an HOA rep (with more clout then me) yelling at them as well. The kids thought nothing ever happens - but the next day there was an article about an apt fire started by a flying firework- the apt was totaled and a cat was killed. No humans were hurt but they could have been - and hey I love my cats so I really don't want some moron neighbor trying to "celebrate" his "freedom" lighting my bushes on fire and burning down my house and killing my pets! I'm sorry but I don't consider setting off fireworks a freedom!
In another area I mentioned I was seriously thinking of printing out the order and putting it on all my neighbor's (up and down the street as well as the next street over) houses along with a note that I WILL call the police if I see anything go up in the air.
