American Idol from Thursday 2/16

So I'm re-watching American Idol from Thursday because I missed the beginning of it.   I went past the part I had been before but decided to keep watching it.

I just saw a group of three who said they didn't want to work with the vocal coaches because they all sang for a living.    I had missed that before I think.  I know two of them will not make it.  One was cut right after the song.   I think it was the lady whose boyfriend had the stroke and I admit I was hoping she would go father.

But - she stated (paraphrase) that they apparently were not looking for real artists.   And that she was there only for a record deal - not to win it (which IMHO is one of the most realistic attitudes anyone can have at this point - some people just almost die they are so angry and disappointed they were cut.)

However what occurred to me is they were over confident.   In fact I saw the same thing in the cowboy guy's statements.   He and his partner DID work with a coach and they striped out the changes he made - he was upset saying he was there to make music not ... (I can't recall the word here)  repeat it.

Well you know sometimes you have to cook the recipe exactly how it is before you can make changes.  (so to speak)  It's the same thing here.  Plus know your audience.   The judges criticism  of these three women were along the lines that they did not know the melody.   They didn't know the melody because they just did it on their own and didn't work with someone.   They performed it they way they wanted to - which was nice... but not what the judges were looking for.   So they did not play to their audience.

Hopeful the rest of the contestants see this and when they are assigned a song they learn to sing it how it was done originally.

However, this is my first year of really watching idol - more then just a person here or there - and I don't know if they ever let the person be themselves.  I hope they do when they get to the top 24 or 12.
